As you may have noticed, there has been no publication for September or announcement for December. This is because I have been unable to find the time to dedicate to the magazine amongst my other responsibilities.
As such, I have decided to postpone the publication of further issues until next year. This means the new due date for Fall Issue submissions is now Sept 22, 2026.
The theme is still Fall, so submissions now have a year for polish,

After a regrettable delay, we are now ready to publish the next issue of Shield & Seaway, with the theme of Summer. It can be purchased from the shop for $5, or, if you’re lucky enough to have a creator coupon code, then it will be half price!

Hello everyone. After much consideration, it has been determined that the Summer issue will have to be released on June 30. Selections have been determined and final changes to the magazine are being made, but we are a two person operation behind the scenes at the moment, and we have recently had a shared personal emergency come up that has necessitated this delay.
Our apologies for the delay, and we are looking forward to the release of this month’s issue.

Today is the deadline for submissions for our Summer issue (more on that later), which brings us to the announcement of next issues theme:
The deadline for submissions will be at midnight on the morning of September 1, 2025. We are looking forward to seeing what your creative mind can come up with!
As for the current Summer issue, we are still hoping to receive a bit more, and so we will once again extend the deadline by 2 weeks, and will now be at midnight on the morning of June 15th.

Yesterday, our first ever issue of Shield & Seaway was published (woo!) which leaves us looking forward to the Summer issue. Thank you to all our contributors, in particular V Tucci and Calvin Halvorsen, who were kind enough to volunteer their work for this first step in the journey this magazine takes.
The hope is that the next issue will feature even more pieces, so get writing and I’m looking forward to seeing what people can come up with!

As the last of the submissions come in for the Spring issue, it is time we begin looking forward to the one to follow. As such, I am pleased to announce the theme of the second issue:
Submissions will be due one June 1st at 00:00. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone can come up with!

Due to a desire to deepen our submission pool, we have decided to extend the deadline by two weeks. As such, the new deadline for submissions is March 15th at 00:00. Publication is still scheduled for March 20th, however this date may be also pushed back slightly if the magazine production is unable to be completed in 5 days, but that remains the goal.
The next issue’s theme, however, will still be revealed on March 1st like previously planned to give creators the full allotment of time for their work for the June issue.
Hello everyone! My name is Joel Mintz, and I am the founder and editor of Shield & Seaway. I am a writer who has always had the ‘do-it-yourself’ mentality, so when it came time for me to start sending my work out to the world, I figured why not put it in my own magazine. So, I got together with fellow creatives to find an audience for ourselves. Thus, Shield & Seaway was born.
